Steeped in a tradition of hydropower, American Hydro is a leading supplier and installer of large equipment for the hydro electric industry, specializing in design, engineering, precision CNC manufacture, upgrades and servicing of high-performance, hydro-turbines and large pumps.

Job Description



We are seeking an experienced Senior Procurement Specialist to join our hydroelectric power manufacturing team. This role involves developing procurement strategies, managing sourcing and negotiations for critical components, and ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and compliance. Responsibilities include overseeing procurement from the RFQ phase to vendor selection, fostering strong supplier relationships, and ensuring timely materials delivery to support safety, maintenance, and production. A solid foundation in project management and quality control and a commitment to excellence will be key to optimizing supply chain efficiency, driving continuous improvement, and advancing the organization’s renewable energy and growth initiatives.

Essential Functions Performed by the Position

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Manage sourcing, negotiation, contracting, and vendor selection processes.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to meet quality, cost, and delivery goals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support safety, maintenance, and production requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance, resolve quality or delivery issues, and ensure compliance with policies and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Oversee procurement processes, including RFQs, purchase orders, and ERP system management.
  • Identify and qualify new vendors while leveraging data analytics to optimize decisions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supply chain efficiency and cost reduction.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Solid knowledge of fabrication and machining processes, including the ability to read technical drawings.
  • Proficient understanding of manufacturing processes, blueprint reading, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Team.
  • Skilled in using ERP systems to support purchasing and procurement activities.

Qualifications



Required Education and Experience

  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred or Minimum of 7 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a job shop or engineered-to-order manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in procurement.

Environment and Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment; some interaction in a heavy steel fabrication environment to coordinate with manufacturing team members
