PLEASE NOTE: Salary is commensurate with experience. For out-of-state applicants, possess a valid state law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding the date of hire. Must have completed three consecutive years of service from the date of hire. Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered. High school diploma or GED; must be a US citizen; successful applicants must pass a physical agility test, possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months; binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault; pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening. Pre-certified officers will attend an abbreviated 14-week academy and will receive a full field training experience to maximize assimilation and familiarization, emphasizing Chesterfield County Police Department philosophy, policies, and procedures. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.
Operate an assigned patrol vehicle; patrol assigned areas of the county for traffic and criminal violations; respond to citizen calls, complaints, and requests for information; conduct victim, witness and suspect interviews; prepare detailed police reports; make arrests; testify in court; interact with community groups and organizations; perform other police patrol operations in the field as assigned and needed. Additionally, candidates will be eligible to be compensated for their past personal and professional development to include: educational attainment, experience, training, assignments, and other accomplishments.
