Job Description
The Senior Director is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic oversight and operational management of logistics functions. This position collaborates with the VP/General Manager and can step in to represent them in their absence. The role focuses on overseeing daily business operations, improving efficiency, and ensuring smooth handling of customer goods throughout the supply chain to meet organizational goals.
This position requires a skilled professional with a strong leadership background, a strategic outlook, and a deep understanding of supply chain logistics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
These duties are performed directly or through assigned management personnel:
Leadership and Strategy
Work alongside the VP/General Manager to develop and execute strategic plans for the Logistics Division.
Provide direction to the logistics team, cultivating a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
Lead continuous improvement efforts to optimize logistics processes, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency.
Operational Management
Oversee operations in key areas including transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and distribution.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Supplier and Vendor Management
Build and nurture strong relationships with suppliers, carriers, and vendors to ensure the timely delivery of goods and services.
Negotiate contracts, pricing, and service agreements to achieve optimal cost-effectiveness and service quality.
Evaluate supplier performance and take corrective actions as needed.
Revenue Growth and Retention
Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to drive strategies for acquiring new clients and retaining existing customers.
Analyze market trends and customer needs to tailor solutions that meet client expectations.
Quality Assurance
Establish and maintain quality assurance processes and standards to ensure top-tier service delivery.
Implement quality control measures and audits to identify and resolve operational deficiencies.
Work with quality assurance teams to address customer concerns and implement corrective actions.
Administration and Finance
Oversee administrative functions such as budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation within the Logistics Division.
Contribute to financial management, ensuring adherence to budget constraints and financial targets.
Provide financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making and strategic planning.
Collaboration and Communication
Collaborate with shared services departments to ensure alignment across functions.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and drive results.
Provide regular updates to the VP/General Manager on areas of responsibility.
Risk Management
Identify potential risks and develop strategies to protect the integrity and security of the supply chain.
Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and new technologies to adapt to future challenges.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for managing and evaluating department personnel and activities. This includes interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, and appraising performance. The Senior Director will also handle employee rewards, discipline, and resolve conflicts or complaints.
QUALIFICATIONS
To succeed in this role, the individual must meet the following qualifications:
Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Strong decision-making and time management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (advanced proficiency preferred).
Knowledge of general commodities, freight, high-value products, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT).
Ability to negotiate rates with service providers.
Skilled in managing asset inventories, including receiving and releasing goods from facilities.
