Job Description - Lead Public Safety Officer (LPSO)
A SSCI Lead Public Safety Officer (LPSO) is a non-law enforcement security position.
Purpose
A LPSO’s purpose is to ensure smooth operation of a given shift or assignment. For example, during a 3pm-11pm shift the LPSO are assigned to a particular operation, usually a building, patrol route or post. There may be exceptions where the routes or building are small enough for the lead officer to manage. As a rule, a lead officer will oversee 1-6 PSOs per shift on an ongoing basis.
The LPSO reports directly to a Supervisory Public Safety Officer. The LPSO is the direct line supervisor for a site or a patrol area or assignment. This individual is expected to be flexible and adaptable. They will demonstrate and promote SSCI leadership principles.
In contrast, a supervisor will have several posts, buildings, or patrol routes for which they are responsible. A supervisor may also have multiple shifts on one site. In any case, there may be multiple lead officers reporting to the supervisor.
Responsibilities:
In addition to fulfilling all the requirements for a Public Safety Officer, the LPSO is responsible for but not limited to:
A. Coordinating shift-wide training.
B. Aid in scheduling.
C. Direct shift activities of the PSOs and coordinates those activities with clients, other departments and supervisors as needed.
D. Assumes responsibilities of the supervisor during his/her absence.
E. Functions as a senior Public Safety Officer when the supervisor is present.
F. Follows broad instructions and operates within the guidelines of system policies plus applicable local, state, and federal laws in carrying out those duties.
G. Engage and physically control acts of aggression and threatened acts of violence.
Standing Stone Lead Officer Requirements:
A. High school diploma/GED.
B. Good communication, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
C. Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt.
D. Good observation and decision-making skills.
E. Working knowledge security practices.
F. Physical dexterity.
G. Ability to cooperate and high level of emotional control.
H. Must have completed year one and two of the SSCI training.
I. Must be able to deal effectively with public in a firm but courteous manner.
J. Must be able to perform under stressful situations, achieve work objectives and maintain the SSCI relations philosophy.
K. Ability to pass background and drug tests.
Job Description - Supervisory Public Safety Officer (SPSO)
A SSCI Supervisory Public Safety Officer (SPSO) is a non-law enforcement security position.
Purpose
The SPSO is one of the most experienced officers and they are the personnel the front line depends on for continuity and leadership. The SPSO interfaces with the customer and acts as a liaison from the field to management. They must possess leadership, technical skills, and administrative capabilities. This is a vital and important position.
A SPSO:
• Ensures smooth operation at multiple posts, patrol assignments or sites
• Develops and trains LPSOs and PSOs to meet specific client needs
• Supports, motivates, and serves the officers so that they serve the client effectively
• Promotes customer service
• Supports area manager & models SSCI high-performance leadership to the team
• Be able to identify any new and beneficial services for the client
• Reports to an Area Operations Manager or, at a large facility, to a site manger
• SPSO will have 1-20LPSOs under their command; or can expand if job requires
Responsibilities:
In addition to fulfilling all the requirements for a Lead Public Safety Officer, the SPSO is responsible for but not limited to:
A. Time and attendance: ensuring hours for billing and payroll purposes.
B. Organizes work schedule a month in advance, including the officers' rotations and breaks.
C. Organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
D. System-wide safety, security and emergency response activities of the area assigned.
E. Inspects team appearance (uniforms, equipment, and grooming) to ensure the safety of officers performing their duties.
F. Briefs the security team on developments and shares information about security concerns.
G. Generates or receives verbal and written reports from subordinates, ensures that reports are timely and of an acceptable quality and takes any follow up actions that are needed.
H. Sets performance goals and deadlines that comply with SSCI’s plans and vision and communicates them to subordinates.
I. Maintains a safe and secure environment for our clients, their visitors, staff and all facilities against property damage or casualty loss.
J. Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
K. Receive complaints and resolve problems.
L. Pass on information from upper management to employees and vice versa.
M. Prepare and submit performance reports.
N. Train new employees.
O. Ensure adherence to legal and company policies and procedures.
P. Undertake disciplinary actions if the need arises.
Standing Stone Supervisor Requirements
A. Associate Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
B. One or more years of lead officer or supervision experience required; preferably in a SSCI position, but not an absolute.
C. Certified act 120 police experience two years preferred.
D. Experience in mutable education facilities desired.
E. Completed year one and two video training and the required supervisor entry level course.
F. Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills including use of personal computer and report writing.
G. Excellent interpersonal skills are desired.
H. Sporting and crowd management experience a plus
I. Ability to pass background checks and drug tests.
