Job Description

General Function

This position provides highly responsible technical support and guidance for trunked radio, voice, and data network communications for all County departments. Performs complex testing and analysis of all elements of the Enterprise network, recommends and implements solutions for issues concerning all network communications, antenna systems, and microwave equipment.

Representative Duties

• Assembles, programs, configures, installs, tests and evaluates performance of new network electronics and UPS Systems.
• Analyzes network data and IP voice issues and takes appropriate corrective actions.
• Program and operate radio system operating software and microwave systems
• Modifies existing network equipment for added functions through upgrades and/or reprogramming.
• Provides guidance to all County departments, Elected Officials and other municipalities on network procedure, purchasing and project compliance.
• Acts as a consultant to address technical issues related to network, design, installation, and planning.
• Administers IP address selection and assignments.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other closely related field and three years of experience in the installation, programming and problem diagnosis of LAN, MAN, WAN networks of all types and configurations; or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience.

Knowledge of firewalls, routers, switches, VPN hardware, radio dispatch consoles, and g ateways.

ENVIRONMENT

Information Systems & Services supports over 10,000 desktop workstations. Software standards include but not limited to the latest Microsoft Office Suite Professional, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Outlook, productivity software applications and industry standard business applications.

· SQL, MicroFocus Cobol, PHP, IBI- WebFocus, Oracle SQL ,PeopleTools, Peoplecode, PeopleSoft’s Query Tool, SQR, Business Objects and Crystal Reports, XML, HTML, JAVA, .NET, C#, ESRI Suite, and PowerShell Scripting.

TCP/IP & RFC standards & protocols, Cisco IOS, Cisco 7600 series and ASR 1K routers, OSPF and BGP, Catalyst 45XX - 65XX, Cisco 9000 series switches including multilayer switching, Juniper EX series switches, MX routers and SRX firewalls.
