Job Summary

Dorman Products is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer to join our growing team. As an Electrical Engineer for Dorman, you will implement and coordinate engineering projects that will support the development and improvement of products. Additional responsibilities include the measurement, evaluation, reverse engineering, and documentation of product characteristics with respect to function, reliability, and quality. This position conducts and coordinates product validation, first article inspection, coordination of external and internal product testing and inspection criteria. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer who can think outside the box and use creative methods to solve problems and develop new solutions. Primary Duties

  • Datalogging and decoding vehicle communication buses. 
  • Tapping into signal lines on a vehicle harness and measuring the signal or capturing it with an oscilloscope. 
  • Flashing hex files to microcontrollers. 
  • Creating bench setups for behavior/functional analysis and testing. 
  • Interpreting harness connector pinout information. 
  • Categorizing vehicle control module behavior during different operating conditions. 
  • Reviewing vehicle wiring diagrams and constructing benchtop setups with control modules to mimic the vehicle's operating conditions. 
  • Executing test plans and creating test reports. 
  • Soldering/Desoldering/Changing components on a printed circuit board assembly. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Experience in contribution to automotive electronics product development. 
  • Experience creating/editing/troubleshooting electronics schematics and layouts. 
  • Experience in using oscilloscopes, signal generators, logical analyzers, etc… 
  • Experience/Practical knowledge of vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, J1850. 
  • Experience/Practical knowledge of MCU bus protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART (RS232), RS485, etc… 
  • Familiar with IPC standards. 
  • Experience in cross-functional team. 
  • Experience with Altium Designer strongly desired. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel. 
  • Physical Requirement: Capability to lift 20 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, swivel, carry items from one area to another, and speak and actively listen. Noise level is usually moderate. 

Education / Experience

  • 1+ years with BS in Electrical Engineering or recent graduate with MS in Electrical Engineering
