If so, this is the opportunity for you!
BooksTime is looking for a creative, resourceful IT and Security Specialist to join our growing team.
This role offers:
Flexible hours
100% remote work
Friendly & supportive colleagues
Significant opportunities for advancement
This position could be a great fit for an ambitious individual early in their career.
Pay range: $20-30/hour
Who we are:
BooksTime is an ambitious, innovative accounting & bookkeeping startup with teams in 5 countries. BooksTime was founded in 2016 and we've been growing fast. For more information, check out our website: bookstime.com.
What you'll do:
As BooksTime has grown, so have our IT needs. Therefore, we’re looking to expand our IT department, which currently includes 3 full-time staff.
2 main functions:
(A) Support & Routine Operations , i.e. responding to helpdesk support tickets from other employees, managing staff access and accounts in company systems when team members are onboarded or offboarded, and more. Our staff who use over 20 different apps and systems and require a wide range of support. (B) Strategic Initiatives , i.e. working on projects to improve our IT systems. This includes automation projects, efforts to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and finding ways to increase the user-friendliness of our internal systems. For example:
We're not satisfied with some of the core software we use and are planning to migrate to new apps, which is a large undertaking. For example: a new password manager, a new task/project management/time tracking app, etc.
As we grow and our IT processes evolve, we need to continually update the design of our security systems and policies. We also need to educate our team on these and enforce compliance.
Your level of involvement will depend on your level of IT and cybersecurity knowledge. At a minimum, we'll need help with the implementation of these. If you have some background in these areas, you can take on much more central roles in setting the direction for these initiatives. Either way, we will really value your ideas and input on everything that we do.
Why join BooksTime:
Very strong interest in continually learning new IT systems
Comfort with relatively unpredictable, ever-changing job functions as the IT needs of the company evolve over time
Comfort figuring things out for the first time -- all the time. For this sort of work, there's no playbook, no step-by-step instructions available. There are different issues all the time. The work is all about investigating and figuring out each problem, finding creative solutions, and also thinking about ways to head off similar problems in the future -- all on a very case-by-case basis.
Comfortable working mostly independently. There are always people who are happy to help you brainstorm, but there's typically nobody else who already knows the answer to the questions that come up -- see above. Someone just has to dive in and figure it out.
Organized, and with good project management skills.
Not required, but helpful:
Relevant experience is helpful but not essential. Whether you have 30 years of directly relevant experience or none at all, the role will still involve learning new things and creatively solving new problems on a daily basis. The key criterion is an interest in continual learning.
A security clearance is highly preferred.
So is a cybersecurity certification (none are required, but any of these would be a plus: CEH, GSEC, GMOB, GCFA, CISA, CISM, Comp TIA Security+ or CySA+, CISSP, SSCP, ECSA, LPT, etc.)
Flexible schedule;
Work from home (we are big believers in remote work!);
Health insurance reimbursement plan (a QSEHRA plan);
Professional development assistance;
Simple IRA with employer matching after 2 years;
Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) starting at 20 days for full-time employees.
Please note, we are not currently hiring residents of California, and strongly prefer candidates that live in EST or CST.
