Job Summary
The Committee of Interns and Residents is looking to fill a Worksite Organizer position in the Northern California Bay Area. CIR is committed to fully engaging our physician members on hospital worksite and CIR issues. To accomplish this, we need a highly driven and committed individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills who can effectively solve problems. Organizers are responsible for building a strong CIR presence in the hospital worksite, developing member leaders, negotiating and enforcing the collective bargaining agreement, and developing strategic relationships within the hospital and the community.

The Bay Area Worksite Organizer will report to the Northern California Regional Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively and with accountability with a team of Worksite Organizers and member leaders to develop and execute common national programming.
  • Identify, recruit, train, develop, and support delegates and worksite leaders.
  • Meet annual membership recruitment and PAC contributions goals at each chapter.
  • Engage members in union activities.
  • Build worksite structures for communication, mobilization, and leadership development.
  • Develop and execute plans for campaigns around a variety of workplace issues.
  • Support delegates and members in effectively using the grievance procedure and other tools to enforce union contracts and improve working conditions.
  • Encourage participation in political and community coalition-building activities.
  • Participate in community and new organizing campaigns from time-to-time.
  • Develop and/or execute contract campaigns and build member participation in all forms of bargaining.
  • Prepare and manage work plans, calendars, files, reports, lists, and other records as directed.
  • Work effectively in a labor-management partnership environment.
  • Other responsibilities, as needed.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Previous union or other organizing (political/community) experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with and develop member leaders to identify issues, strategize solutions, and build power to secure desired changes in the workplace.
  • Commitment to social justice and the organizing model of unionism.
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to manage conflict and adversarial situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong planning and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in utilizing the technological tools needed to be successful in this position (Google Suite, WhatsApp, Slack, Purple Text, VAN, etc).
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and occasional weekends, as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to be in the field for work assignments.
  • Knowledge of computer programs (including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software).
  • Proof of up-to-date COVID vaccination is a condition of employment.
  • Must reside in the Northern California Bay Area area or be willing to relocate.
  • Commitment to ongoing self-reflection and professional development in the work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience organizing in healthcare settings.
  • Experience in navigating complex labor management relationships
  • Knowledge of the process of medical training for doctors in the US healthcare system

CIR Offers
Competitive salary ($59,579 - $109,549) commensurate with experience and in compliance with the staff collective bargaining agreement.
