UCLA African American Studies Department Senior Faculty Position 2025-2026

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Department of African American Studies invites applications for a senior faculty appointment at the level of Full Professor. Experienced candidates with a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in African American Studies, Africana Studies, and/or African Diaspora Studies with an emphasis in one or any of the following areas of expertise are encouraged to apply: Anthropology, Digital Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Global Economics, History, Political Science, Sociology, and Visual/Media Studies. Additionally, scholars whose research is interdisciplinary, bridging the social sciences and humanities, and those candidates who approach their research from comparative, transnational, and/ or Pan-African perspectives, especially from the Global South, are also encouraged to apply.
Qualifications include an exceptional scholarly research and publication record, an outstanding teaching record, experience with interdisciplinary instructional programs, and strong administrative skills. The department welcomes candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to inclusive excellence and community-engagement.
An interdisciplinary instructional program in African American Studies was established at UCLA in 1974. The program achieved departmental status during the 2013-14 academic year. The salary range for this position is $112,900-$205,400. 'Off-scale salaries' and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
