Job Summary:

The Contractual Physical Therapist is a Licensed Physical Therapist responsible for patient assessment and administering various physical therapeutic treatments to the patient, based on physician orders.  The Contractual Physical Therapist also assists in keeping patient related records and preparing reports.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  1. After physician referral, evaluates patients prior to treatment.
  2. Plans and documents therapy program for each patient.
  3. Performs diagnostic and prognostic muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests.
  4. Directs and assists patient in therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation, progressive ambulation, and activities of daily living.
  5. Utilizes hydrotherapy, electrotherapy and other heat and cold applications as well as massage.
  6. Directs and instructs patient in care of and use of walkers, crutches, canes, prosthetic and orthotic devices, wheelchairs, and other assistive devices.
  7. Establishes home programs and is assured that patient is able to perform them.
  8. Maintains timely, accurate records/documentation for each patient.
  9. Maintains contact with physicians throughout patient treatment program to provide information on patient progress and to communicate program revisions.
  10. Supervises PTA, Aides, volunteers and students in the Physical Therapy Department.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

 Education Requirements:

  1. Graduate of an approved school of physical therapy and licensed or eligible to be licensed in the State of Illinois.
  2. Must have a valid driver’s license.

  1. Excellent communication skills.
  2. Computer literate.
  3. Emotional stability
  4. Ability to cope with the demands of patients and their families.
