Primary (Essential) Duties: - Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes.
- Greets patients in a professional, courteous manner.
- Obtains specimens by proper, established techniques, with demonstrated competency.
- Obtains outpatient specimens (sometimes with direct observation) and swabs, as needed.
- Non-patient specimen registrations.
- Label specimens immediately, according to policy, and distributes to appropriate testing areas of laboratory.
- Enters and retrieves computer data. Scans laboratory reports not available through the computer.
- Completes essential records such as chain of custody forms, assuring to verify patient photo identification.
- Performs clerical, general, and phlebotomy duties related to daily operations in the laboratory.
- Maintains accurate and continued documentation. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Care for and maintain supplies and equipment, assisting in inventory control. Alert supervisor to defective equipment and supplies.
- Maintains work area in a sanitary condition, at all times.
- Responsible for adequately stocked and organized inventory of reagents and supplies in the laboratory. Reports needed supplies to Director.
- Applies principles of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
- Assists in orientation and training of new staff/students as necessary.
- Performs other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practice

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1-year Phlebotomy experience required
- Phlebotomy certification is preferred
