Description of Duties:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) manages over 6 million acres of public land designated as Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). These lands are vital for protecting the state’s fish and wildlife resources while offering opportunities for wildlife-based recreation. The FWC is seeking a dedicated individual to oversee efforts aimed at enhancing visitor engagement with these areas.

 

This position will focus on developing and executing comprehensive strategies to attract new visitors to WMAs and ensure the public is well-informed about the recreational opportunities available. The successful candidate will collaborate with various partners to coordinate public information campaigns, manage digital platforms, and create content that resonates with broad audiences.

 

The position offers a fixed pay of $23.44 per hour with health benefits, based on working 1,920 hours in a fiscal year. Stationed at the Russell Park Building in Tallahassee, FL, this role presents an exciting opportunity for an outgoing, self-motivated individual with a passion for accessible and responsible outdoor recreation.

 

Duties:

  • Project Development and Management:
    • Coordinate and strategize outreach activities that promote Florida’s Wildlife Management Area system and attract new visitors to WMAs, including social media, email outreach, website updates, and online advertising.
    • Help coordinate efforts for events and promotions.
    • Manage the redesign of FWC webpages pertaining to the WMA system, ensuring accuracy, relevance, timely information, and user-friendly experience.
  • Communications and Media Relations:
    • Provide accurate and timely information to media outlets regarding the agency's activities, with a particular emphasis on Florida's WMA system, including habitat management, public meetings, and recreational opportunities.
    • Assess scientific information and quickly write clear and concise news releases, talking points, media statements, and web articles for public use.
    • Assist with coordinating the promotion of newsletters, brochures, flyers, and other print materials that highlight both the WMA system and other agency programs.
    • Create and review content for use on various platforms such as social media (Facebook, X, Flickr, YouTube, Instagram), websites, and email communications. Ensure consistent coverage of both the WMA system and other agency initiatives.
  • Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct research to identify trends, customer demographics, and WMA visitor preferences.
    • Analyze data, including the performance of outreach efforts, customer feedback, and trends, to identify areas of improvement and new opportunities.
    • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing public information activities, results, and recommendations.
  • Partner Coordination and Compliance:
    • Have a detailed understanding of agency standards and guidelines for public communication and coordinate with division and agency community relations staff.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with news media.
    • Identify and establish partnerships with state and local organizations to enhance the visibility of the WMA system.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Broad understanding of digital platforms, including social media, search engine optimization, and web analytics.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas, collaborate across teams, and communicate concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Results-oriented, with a strong focus on driving measurable outcomes and achieving objectives.
  • Ability and willingness to travel on day trips (within a 100-mile radius) and overnight (3 to 5 days). Approximately 10% of this position’s time includes travel, with flexibility to work weekends and evenings, as necessary .
  • Florida Certified Contract Manager (preferred).

 

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, communications or a related field. Preferred 2-4 years' experience in brand management or related roles, preferably within the tourism or outdoor recreation fields. Experience in a related field can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. Employment Contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
