Job Description

Job Title: Medical Receptionist/Medical Office Assistant/Medical Administrative Assistant

Address: Chestnut Hill, MA 02467

Start Date: 02/24/2025

Duration: 08 weeks

Shift: M - F; 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Pay Rate: $17/hr. - $20/hr.

On-call Rate: $2/hr.

OT Rate: 1.35 times the taxable amount.

Job Description:

  • Patient Access Representative - Practice location: 830 Boylston Street Suite 106 in Chestnut Hill, MA.
  • Healthcare and EPIC experience required; customer service required; pre-registration and registration of patients.

Principal Functions

Department Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the reception of patients and the public.
  • Greet patients and determine appropriate service areas.
  • Provide information on patient location to family members, MD, hospital staff, and the general public.
  • Answer telephones.
  • Promote a positive customer service atmosphere.

Responsible for the efficient registration process for all inpatients and outpatients:

  • Pre-register or pre-admit patients in the computer system from information received on booking forms.
  • Receives patient, enters in computer system complete and accurate required admission data from the patient or responsible third party.
  • Obtains necessary signatures on inpatient admissions and outpatient registrations.
  • Screens all admissions and registrations for compliance with appropriate utilization of services and compliance with Federal, State, and third-party mandates for managed care.
  • Obtains approval before processing patients.
  • Provides appropriate forms to various hospital departments and staff.
  • Obtains deposits as directed and delivers same to appropriate staff persons.
  • Ensures timely processing/transport of patients and admission/registration forms to appropriate areas.
  • Secures medical records on new patient arrivals.
  • Performs order entry on selected patients for specific testing.

Responsible for dissemination of information on Patient Rights:

  • Ensures that all patients receive information regarding their rights as a patient (verbal and written).
  • Ensures that all inpatients receive information regarding Advance Directives and that the Advance Directive status is indicated on the computer and on the Advance Directive Receipt of Information form.

Handles urgent and emergency admissions appropriately:

  • Records urgent and emergency admissions and Extended Observation of patients on an appropriate log.
  • Obtains complete and accurate information on all urgent, emergency, and observation status patients.
  • Files appropriately/checks from MD orders, surgical consents, history and physical, etc., on all patients.
  • Ensures MD orders are attached to charts.

Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High School graduate, two years post High School preferred.
  • One year related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Typing, word processing, and computer skills.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Strong experience in a customer service position.

Cannot have worked perm/travel for any Beth Israel facility within the past year.
