Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Friends of Bonobos (FOB) seeks a full-time Marketing and Communications Manager. We are a small, entrepreneurial organization that is growing rapidly, so this position requires both a keen ability to manage, organize and track the progress of the team while still engaging in the day-to-day implementation of our marketing and comms tasks and activities.

This role is responsible for managing and fulfilling all communications and marketing efforts related to Friends of Bonobos donor, advocacy, and partnership programming to achieve program goals, build brand awareness, and serve Friends of Bonobos' mission. This includes aligning all print and digital marketing collateral, advertising, educational materials, email communications, social media, fundraising and development collateral, and special projects. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, this professional must have an established background in implementing marketing strategies and tactics, managing staff, and building a team.

Position can be remote, however, successful candidate must be able to travel to Durham, NC, for quarterly meetings and occasionally elsewhere for events.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Campaign Management

  • Plan, oversee execution of, and monitor marketing campaigns across a variety of channels, such as websites (bonobos.org and shopbonobos.org), social media, email, and events. 
  • Develop, implement, and manage integrated promotions and campaigns that increase awareness of and participation in the organization and its programs.
  • Develop and define strategies for multi-platform campaigns to build brand awareness, increase engagement, and grow the donor base. 
  • Lead FOB's event strategy, planning, and execution. In collaboration with other departments, oversee event planning, production, and execution, including invitations, logistics, emails, etc.

Brand Management

  • Manage and develop website: ensure functionality, troubleshoot issues, assess and report on performance, implement SEO strategies to increase traffic and visibility, improve user experience, etc.
  • Ensure all outgoing materials (ads, newsletters, social posts, PR) are accurate and on brand, follow the organization's strategy, and are designed to help reach the org's targeted goals.
  • Manage, develop, and implement creative and copy elements for marketing campaigns and program materials for a diverse range of audiences, demographics, and stakeholders.
  • Manage the creation and production of graphic design and copy for a range of print and digital marketing materials across a wide range of mediums and platforms.

Strategy Management

  • With the Executive Director, formulate and implement a comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plan and promotional/editorial calendar.
  • Conduct market research studies and analyze and report the findings.
  • Create and evaluate marketing strategies based on goals, market trends, and other relevant factors. 
  • Track and report on effectiveness of campaigns and activities, analyze results and ROI, and revise strategy based on results.

Communications Management

  • Serve as a liaison between FOB and its sister organization in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Relay key information to management and staff.
  • Produce content for donors, institutions, and partners, such as funding proposals, e-newsletters, blog posts, fact sheets, and presentations.
  • Manage strategy and implementation of communications via listserv, social media, blog, text, etc.
  • Maintain and adhere to schedules of all marketing and communication activities. Manage Friends of Bonobos' communications calendar.
  • Manage constituent communications, including responses to inquiries and comments to shared email boxes, social media messages, texts, etc.
  • Analyze, author, and report out on communications functions and metrics for grantors, donors, FOB staff, Board Members and various audiences as needed.
  • Lead communications in case of a crisis. 

Budgeting

  • Develop and adhere to a departmental budget. Manage budgets and expenditures.
  • Analyze financial ROI of marketing and communications activities.

Staff and Vendor Management

  • Manage one to two full-time employees, multiple external contractors, and volunteers as needs dictate.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate marketing and communications staff, and oversee their daily activities.
  • Manage contracts with vendors and media companies, ensuring projects and work are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.

Media and PR

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors and media organizations.
  • Draft and distribute media releases; prepare media kits; conceptualize and pitch story ideas.

Other duties include:

  • Managing FOB's image and video collection, licensing FOB footage, and other activities established by the Executive Director.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing or a related field with 6+ years experience or Master's degree in marketing or a related field with 3+ years experience
  • Proficiency with regularly used software and platforms including WhatsApp; Google for Nonprofits, Google Analytics, GoogGoogle Tag Manager, Google Search Console, Canva, Adobe Suite, Constant Contact, Wix, all primary social media platforms, Hootsuite, Zoom.
  • Written and/or spoken French is a huge plus.

  • $65,000-$80,000 USD annually depending on experience
