Job Description

Role Overview

The Ithaca Program Manager (IPM) provides support and oversight for the Ithaca-based programs of the Telluride Association. 

During the academic year, the IPM supports the Cornell Branch of the Telluride Association (CBTA), a scholarship house for 15-30 college students. This includes providing direct student support, assisting Board members, overseeing program goals and budget, and maintaining Telluride’s institutional relationship with Cornell University.

During the spring and summer, the IPM serves as Camp Director for the Telluride Association Summer Seminar (TASS), an academic summer camp program for high school students. This includes supervising summer factotums (a position similar to camp counselor) and health staff, liaising with faculty, facilitating behavior support and transformative justice processes for students, overseeing site operations, communicating with parents, and ensuring compliance with New York State’s health and safety regulations.

Year-round, the IPM supervises the Cornell Branch Head Chef and Maintenance Coordinator, oversees facilities maintenance at CBTA, and provides administrative support as needed.

  • Position Type : Salaried Exempt / Regular Full-Time
  • Work Schedule:
    • During academic year: Average 40 hours/week over 5 days per week. Occasional evening and weekend hours required for Board meetings, events, and program support.
    • During TASS summer program (5 weeks from June-July): average 45-50 hours/week over 6 days per week, and on-call 24/7 for duration of program. Occasional overnights may be required for emergencies.

    • During academic year: 3-5 days per week in office; option to work remotely for 1-2 days per week with agreement of supervisor. 
    • During TASS summer program: at Cornell site 6 days per week. On call 24/7 support staff and handle emergencies.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel estimated at 2-5% (1-3 weeks) per year. This position includes mandatory occasional weekday and weekend travel, including visits to Telluride’s Michigan site, travel to Telluride’s annual Convention in June, and summer staff training.
  • Position Duration: 12 months/year
  • Benefits Eligibility: Benefits eligible. Benefits include paid time off and SELECT benefits (including retirement plan and health insurance, if elected).
  • Compensation: $64,350 to $74,550, depending on experience

Key Relationships : The IPM is supervised by the Executive Director, and supervises the Cornell Branch Head Chef and Maintenance Coordinator. During the TASS summer program, the IPM additionally supervises 4-8 temporary summer program staff and works closely with the Summer Program Manager, who oversees all summer program operations. The IPM also works closely with the Board’s Cornell Branch Committee.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience, including 2-3 years of leadership experience in student life, residential or cooperative education, summer programs, secondary education, undergraduate education, and/or other academic settings.
  • Meets New York State requirements for summer camp director, including:
    • Bachelor’s Degree or at least 25 years old
    • At least 24 weeks of administrative or supervisory experience in camps or comparable programs for minors
  • Proven experience in managing people and developing staff.
  • Experience working with Black students, parents, and/or populations, students of color, working class students, LGBTQIA+ students, and other students of marginalized backgrounds and diverse educational preparation.
  • Knowledge of anti-racism work
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including experience with group facilitation.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Leadership experience with inspiring and motivating teams
  • Proven problem-solving and consensus-building skills
  • Project management and policy development experience
  • Experience ensuring compliance with organizational policies and external regulations.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and flexibility.
  • Proficiency in office software.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements of the position, including 1-3 weeks travel per year.

Responsibilities

Cornell Branch Program Support - 30%

  • Support the Cornell Branch of the Telluride Association (CBTA) in achieving programmatic goals. 
  • Assist and mentor CBTA students as needed; facilitate conflict resolution; connect CBTA students with student services.
  • Serve as staff liaison for the Board’s Cornell Branch Committee. Assist with committee coordination, administrative tasks, and continuity over time; assist committee to prepare reports, budgets, and legislation for Board meetings; attend regular committee meetings and Board meetings, including weekend and evening meetings; attend the annual Convention of the Board. 
  • Partner with the Board to develop CBTA budgets; monitor budgets throughout the year. 
  • Serve as project manager for CBTA-related projects.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for CBTA policies, processes, procedures, forms, and timelines; ensure these coordinate effectively with other staff and Board work.
  • Partner with Board and Executive Director to develop and carry out a comprehensive risk management strategy for CBTA.
  • Assist Board and Executive Director with fundraising, events, and alumni development as they relate to CBTA.
  • Assist Board and Executive Director to develop and implement program evaluation.
  • Assist the Board and Executive Director to develop and maintain positive relationships with Cornell University.

Cornell TASS Program Support - 25%

  • Serve as Camp Director for Cornell TASS. The training period runs from late March through mid-June; the residential program lasts from late June through early August. 
  • Complete annual summer staff training (virtual and in-person), including advanced first aid and CPR/AED training required by New York State.
  • Work with site staff:
    • Directly supervise the Assistant Site Supervisor and 2-4 Factotums, providing support, guidance, and oversight.
    • Liaise with site Faculty, support faculty needs, and facilitate positive working relationships with faculty. 
    • Supervise site health staff and support their needs. 
  • Manage site operations, including:
    • Act as primary contact for parents
    • Oversee site setup, cleanup, and move-in/move-out procedures
    • Coordinate with Summer Program Manager, admin staff, and Telluride Association board members
    • Liaise with host university and vendors for student services
    • Monitor program budgets and expenditures
    • Facilitate daily factotum meetings and weekly team meetings.
  • Provide student support:
    • Check in with each student at least once during the summer
    • Oversee transformative justice and behavior support
    • Manage escalated behavioral issues and potential dismissals
  • Oversee risk management:
    • Monitor and mitigate risks to safety, health, property, institutional relationships, and programmatic goals.
    • During the program, be available on call to assist after hours in an emergency or crisis support for staff and participants. 
    • Ensure that incident reports are completed, filed, and shared in a timely manner. 
    • Ensure compliance with Safety Plan and Health Department regulations
  • Conduct program evaluation and reporting
  • Ensure collection of content for recruitment and communications

Supervision - 20%

  • Directly supervise the CBTA Head Chef and CBTA Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Accomplish objectives by supervising staff and organizing and monitoring work.
  • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and developing professional development opportunities.
  • Carry out performance management, including coaching, reviewing, and disciplining employees. Assist Head Chef in carrying out performance management for their direct reports. 
  • Mentor CBTA’s student Employment Coordinator(s) and include them as appropriate in performance evaluations and other employment processes.

Facilities - 10%

  • Oversee the Maintenance Coordinator in planning and carrying out routine maintenance and renovations activities for CBTA.
  • Work with the Board and Executive Director to plan and execute major renovations.
  • Manage cleaning contractors for CBTA.
  • Plan and monitor CBTA maintenance and renovations budgets. 

Administration - 10%

  • Serve as administrative lead for annual New York State camp licensing process.
  • Carry out administrative duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including paper and digital files.
  • Create and maintain records and reports in Salesforce. 

Professional Development - 5%

  • Pursue professional development opportunities with the agreement of supervisor.
