Job Description:

St. Mary’s Academy seeks an experienced high school English teacher for a teaching position starting in August 2025. This position includes teaching three “block” classes per day, serving as a grade-level advisor, and sponsoring a monthly club. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach three block classes per day;
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities;
• Assign classwork and homework as necessary, according to lesson plans;
• Prepare classroom for class activities;
• Modify teaching to fit the learning styles of various students;
• Maintain a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment;
• Create lesson plans, grade classwork, homework, and tests;
• Attend parent conferences;
• Possess a professional demeanor while interacting with parents students and colleagues.;
• Attend and participate in school activities and events
• Adhere to and support the mission of St. Mary’s Academy.

All teachers are also responsible for a variety of duties and tasks throughout the day; the principal will make these assignments and share them with faculty. These tasks and assignments change as needs of the community are determined.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education and qualifications should include the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in English or field
• Master’s degree or teaching certification is strongly preferred
• 3+ years of teaching experience - ideally with a capacity to teach a range of writing and literature classes including 9th Grade Literature, Creative Writing, College Writing, and AP Language.
• Ability to connect and communicate effectively with students
• Demonstrated use of classroom technology
• Willingness to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and parents
• A sense of resonance with the St. Mary’s Academy mission
• Demonstrated use of classroom technology
