Job Summary:

The selected candidate for this position will become a key member of the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, Division of Infectious Disease Healthcare Infection Prevention Research Program and will work closely with the program's Principal Investigator (Dr. Nasia Safdar), other investigators, program staff members, and research subjects.

The immediate program needs for this position are:
- Identification, communication, recruitment and consent of prospective patients for clinical studies. Ensure study subjects complete all required visits. Complete study related forms and electronic case reports in a timely matter.
- Provide support to the PI for key projects in a Project Lead capacity, using organization skills to satisfy the project goals and timelines. Serve as a primary contact for regulatory and fiscal personnel, sponsors, and additional study team members.
- Ability to both work independently to solve problems with minimal supervision, and to collaborate with research teams to remove barriers and achieve desired study outcomes.
- Communicate with sponsors and the study team on issues and study goals. Engage in planning studies from startup to study completion. Assist in the preparation of progress and final research reports. Provide regular updates to the study PI and sponsors.
- Develop data tools and collect data including chart abstraction and health records review.
- Excellent communication skills are needed to professionally interact with physicians, nurses, patients, and researchers.
- Collection and initial processing of specimens that undergo further testing in the investigator's research laboratory.

Additional duties will include:
- Manage project data, including clinical and specimen data, and assure data consistency/security using standard good clinical practice.
- Conducting interviews, focus groups, surveys, and interacting patient stakeholders.
- Conduct scientific literature searches, including abstracting data from published sources, summarizing articles, and maintaining a bibliographic database.
- Organize and prepare materials for research team meetings and summarize meeting notes.
- Additional activities in support of the research program and Infectious Disease Division, as needed.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates clinical research studies, performing related tasks and activities. Collects information, recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility, and enrolls study participants and ensures subjects follow the research protocol.
  • 30% Schedules logistics, determines workflows, and secures resources for a defined clinical research trial(s)
  • 20% Recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility and enrolls trial participants, collects information, and answers questions under supervision of a medically licensed professional. May perform basic medical assessments after completion of required training/certification, such as collecting vital signs, obtaining weight, and performing phlebotomy
  • 20% Manages research workflow components, collects, prepares, processes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols
  • 15% Identifies work unit resources needs and manages supply and equipment inventory levels
  • 15% Serves as an initial point of contact for clinical research participants and clinical staff, providing information regarding research procedures, expectations, and informational inquiries. Ensures participants follow the research protocol and alerts Principal Investigator of issues

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred focus in biology, microbiology, or other related field.

Qualifications:

At least one year of laboratory, research experience, or clinical trials experience required.

Preferred:
Prior experience with regulatory activities (IRB and IND submissions, changes, reportable events).
Prior experience in recruitment and consent of clinical research subjects.
Prior experience with preparing study protocols and manuals of operations.
Prior experience preparing project reports, scientific manuscripts, and/or grant proposals.
Prior experience working in as a clinical trial coordinator or using medical records.
Prior experience working with regulatory (FDA, IRB, etc.) agencies.

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 12 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $45,500 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $45,500 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship. The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring their continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment. This position is currently scheduled to end 12/08/2025 and will require eligibility to work until that time.
