Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC) is currently seeking two qualified individuals to join our Board.
SPLC offers a broad range of health and social services, and affordable housing for older adults and seniors. We are a charitable, not-for-profit corporation with a team of 150 employees, 200 volunteers, and a volunteer Board of twelve Directors. Together we support thousands of older adults, seniors, and their care partners annually. We have expertise in supporting people who are from diverse backgrounds and experiencing complex social and health needs, to live at home.

Your commitment:
- The Board of Directors is responsible for and works collaboratively with the Executive Director to set strategic directions, provide fiduciary oversight and accountability for performance in achieving SPLC’s mission and vision, and build relationships in our community.
- Board Directors make a commitment to a 3-year renewable term
- Attend Board meetings 6 times per year, and one or more committees that meet quarterly or as needed (average 3-4 hours per month in total). Some meetings will be held in-person.
- Represent the communities who are served by SPLC and bring their unique perspectives and interests to Board discussions.
The Nominating Committee of the Board welcomes expressions of interest from persons from diverse backgrounds and equity-deserving demographic groups.

Qualifications - Reside in Toronto, and have knowledge of Scarborough/northeast Toronto as a local resident or through work experience
Skills and expertise in the following categories to complement our current Board’s range of expertise:
- Healthcare – knowledge of the Ontario health system, its structures, and processes, health policy, and the legislative and structural transformation underway; opportunities to effectively care for an ageing population in community settings
- Management and Business - Human Resources eg. strategic workforce planning, compensation; Finance; Risk management
- Law and legislation – relevant legislation and applications to healthcare, housing and governance
- Mental Health and Addictions – knowledge in care and supports for mental health for older adults, including dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, and / or substance use and a harm reduction approach
- Communications and Marketing – marketing strategy, government relations, public relations
- Resource Development / Fundraising – knowledge and experience of development of financial resources and / or fundraising, donor relations, communications
- Technology and Information Management – Digital health, IT, AI, technological advances to support seniors, clinical and other information systems
- Client, Patient, and Caregiver Experience – experience with receiving care or support at home or in the community (eg. from a healthcare worker) or being a caregiver / care partner, and experience with the importance of inclusive, culturally safe approaches that contribute to person-centred care
- Housing – Social / Community Housing, Supportive Housing, Housing Development, Property Management
- Governance – 2-3 years experience contributing on a non-profit Board of Directors or Board committee, with knowledge of governance practices
- Specific Populations - Newcomers and Immigrants, Racialized Communities
Other Assets - Knowledge/understanding of cultures, faiths and languages of diverse populations including Asia, South Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean
- Understanding of social determinants of health and barriers for complex, frail seniors
- Understanding of non-profit community services
Selection Timeline and Process Short listed candidates will be asked to complete an Expression of Interest form and may subsequently be invited for interview with the Nominating Committee. Interviewed candidates who are recommended by the Nominating Committee will stand for election at a meeting of Members in late fall and participate in reference check and vulnerable sector police check.
