The Institute's impact expands beyond its 25-acre residential campus in Brooklyn to cutting-edge facilities throughout the borough, a landmark building and public gallery in Manhattan, as well as an extension campus, Pratt Munson College of Art and Design in Utica, New York. On Governors Island, Pratt is a core partner on the Stony Brook University team selected to develop the New York Climate Exchange, a research and educational hub poised to establish New York City as the global leader for the most pressing issue of our time: climate change. Description

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Social Science & Cultural Studies (SSCS) provides students a broad education in the social sciences, history, and critical cultural theory, with a key focus on sustainability and social justice, including courses in anthropology, geography, global and environmental history, philosophy, politics and economics, psychology, sociology, and gender & sexuality studies. These offerings serve the department's interdisciplinary BA program in Critical & Visual Studies and its minors in Sustainability, Philosophy, Psychology, Cultural Studies, Social Justice/Social Practice, and Gender & Sexuality Studies, as well as being key components of the General Education curriculum that serves almost every Pratt student. Department faculty share interests in cultural production, media, social infrastructures, publics, and the institutions and practices of creativity, as well as a concern with the diverse histories and material cultures that shape global interactions and inequalities.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL
The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SLAS) at Pratt Institute comprises the departments of History of Art and Design, Math and Science, Humanities and Media Studies and Social Science and Cultural Studies. It delivers a Liberal Arts and Sciences education to all Pratt students through the Institute's General Education program and multiple minors as well as degree programs that include a BFA and MFA in Creative Writing, an MA in Media Studies, and a BA, BFA, MA in History of Art and Design and a dual MA/MSLIS in History of Art and Design and the School of Information. The programs are integral to Pratt's commitment to an education for creative thinkers prepared to participate in making a better world.
Like the Institute, the School forefronts its commitment to the education and support of artists, makers, thinkers and professionals, and to building diversity across the curriculum as well as faculty, students, and staff. This search seeks applicants who can contribute meaningfully to meeting these goals.
