Job Description

Bretton Woods Recreation Center (BWRC) is looking for an Arts & Crafts Director to join our leadership team of highly engaged professionals.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years.
  • Proficiency in office skills, including Microsoft, Excel, and Canva.
  • Documented experience in arts and crafts instruction or relevant training.
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR.
  • Training and experience in teaching arts and crafts to children.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors with children in various conditions.
  • Experience in designing and creating decorations and costumes for special events.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with diverse age groups and skill levels.
  • Capability to observe and manage camper and staff behavior, enforce safety regulations, and apply behavior-management techniques.
  • Visual and auditory acuity to identify and respond to environmental hazards.
  • Physical ability to provide first aid, assist in emergencies, and maintain constant supervision of campers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate arts and crafts programs.
  • Create lesson plans aligned with camp outcomes and camper abilities.
  • Evaluate camper and staff abilities.
  • Design and deliver arts and crafts activities using various mediums and natural resources.
  • Assess the success of the arts and crafts program.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and educational procedures.
  • Assist in staff training for arts and crafts.
  • Train other staff in arts and crafts responsibilities.
  • Monitor safety procedures for campers and staff.
  • Assist in developing art kits for groups and special events.
  • Manage and care for physical facilities and equipment in the arts and crafts program area.
  • Maintain arts and crafts equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure security and inventory control of equipment and supplies.
  • Conduct daily checks for safety, cleanliness, and repair in the arts and crafts area.
  • Participate actively in all camp activities and contribute to planning and leading assigned activities.
  • Contribute to evening programs, special events, overnights, and other camp functions.
  • Assist in planning special events, particularly in decorations and costumes.
  • Attend weekly department meetings.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Reliable transportation (no access to public transportation).
  • Experience in teaching or leading outdoor skills/activities.
  • Outdoor activity experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with all age groups.
  • Flexibility, positivity, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced environment with a focus on change and improvement.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and bending over.
