About the Role:
As an Accounting Manager, you'll play a vital role in leading a core group of complex clients and the accounting staff supporting those accounts. This leadership position involves mentoring and developing team members, improving accounting processes, managing client files, leading client meetings, and ensuring smooth communication between teams and clients. You will provide oversight of team member work, facilitate cross-training, and manage backups to ensure consistency and continuity. You'll be a key figure in staff development and client satisfaction.
This position requires the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on diverse and specialized accounting functions. The ideal individual has a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, is adept at prioritizing and handling multiple assignments concurrently, and demonstrates a track record of achieving high performance. You'll manage a team with a friendly, positive approach and be comfortable providing constructive feedback. Proficiency in Excel and various financial systems is essential.
What You'll Do:
Client Account Leadership: Lead multiple accounts supported by a team of staff. Ensure all staff assigned to accounts are supported and work is monitored for timeliness and quality. Work closely with leadership to assess client accounting and staffing needs. Perform month-end accounting entries, close the books, and attend client meetings as needed.
Team Leadership & Mentoring: Lead and mentor the accounting team for assigned clients, motivating them to provide exceptional service. Offer timely coaching and conduct performance reviews to help staff succeed and grow professionally. Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and development. Communicate real-time, constructive feedback to staff in a professional manner.
File Closures & Training: Complete full file closures for staff who have not been trained on the closing process. Determine when staff are ready to learn the closing process and provide closing training, mentoring, and pre-close support. Include account transitioning to ensure a smooth transition and support both leadership and accountants.
Cross-Training & Backup Management: Oversee cross-training efforts within the team to ensure proper backups are in place for each client account.
Quality Assurance: Oversee and ensure the quality of all files handled by team members.
Process and Technology Implementation: Participate in the implementation of new processes or technologies.
1099 Reviews: Assist with 1099 reviews, when needed.
Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as required.
What You'll Bring:
5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the $5M-$25M revenue space, with at least one year in a client service environment.
Strong working knowledge of accounting software (NetSuite a plus).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Bonus Points For:
Associate's degree in accounting or relevant certification.
Experience with other accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, etc.).
Experience with third-party applications (Bill.com, etc.).
